WMG winter walk details – Sat 1 February 2014

This year’s WMG winter walk will be based on the picturesque village of Tanworth-in-Arden, Warwickshire (between Redditch and Solihull). The distance will be around 5 or 6 miles, partly on-road but mostly on footpaths and a green lane across undulating countryside.

There is plenty of street parking in the village, including around the village green, and also an upmarket pub where people might like to meet from 12.30 onwards and have a quick drink before we set off. It is however too smart for a group of muddy ramblers returning from a winter walk, and we shall dine elsewhere afterwards [venue yet to be decided – I am sampling one recommended pub on 17 Jan]. As it’s likely to be wet underfoot, it may be a good idea to bring a change of trousers (and definitely to wear boots or wellies).

We’ll set off at 1pm from the village green and should be back around 4-4.30.

Bad weather has interfered with our winter walk over the last couple of years and this complicates the booking for a dining venue. To give me an idea of numbers, it would be helpful if people could say whether they would still plan to come and eat if the weather was wet (i.e. treat it as a social event even if the walk had to be cancelled). In the event of snow, it would of course have to be cancelled altogether.

To reach Tanworth, leave the M42 at J3 and head south on the A435 Evesham road, turning off left where the village is signposted. Alternatively postcode B94 5AL should get you there.

Please let me know if you intend to come (via the WMG e-group if you are a member of this, otherwise email me directly), also how many of you there will be and your dining plans (see above).

NOTE: Everyone is welcome but participants should consider themselves to be on a private excursion – neither the organiser nor the ITI West Midlands Group can accept any liability for accidents or injuries sustained by anyone involved.

Please contact me if you have any particular queries or concerns.
